Dowdy Lake
Dowdy Lake is one of the lakes in the Red Feather Lakes region, about 50 minutes from Fort Collins. You take 287 north and turn onto Red Feather Lakes road at the Forks in Livermore.
The lake is very clear and has numerous islands, many composed of gigantic rocks. There are also rocks just below the surface but posed no problem to our small boats.
It is class I flatwater, but you have to watch the weather and wind. The area is popular for boating, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding. There is a trail completely around the lake and there are other trails available. If you plan a trip, the weather is always better in the morning, as the storms come up after noon in the mountains.
The fee for parking is $10, but you can use your America the Beautiful Senior Pass to get in free.
On a recent float, we had 10 people in a wide variety of boats. The weather was cloudy, but the rain was very light and didn't amount to much.
